Sir Paul McCartney Presentation Sculpture

The presentation sculpture for Sir Paul McCartney is fabricated from anodized aluminum and Indiana limestone. The anodized aluminum portion of the sculpture is made in the form of a stylized cartouche. A cartouche is an ancient Egyptian image that is made as an oval with a horizontal line at one end which indicates that the hieroglyphic text enclosed is a royal name.

 The imagery within the aluminum cartouche begins at the base with a depiction of a four sectioned beetle with a heart at the center of those sections. The beetle, (Beatle) is partaking of a golden lotus which references the Beatles spiritual pursuits. The lotus gives bloom to a heart within a heart. The inner heart in this imagery transforms into a stylized image of Mr. McCartney's Hofner bass guitar which in turn bursts out of the confines of the cartouche. The upper portion of the bursting guitar contains yet another heart image. Carved in high relief on the reverse side of the stone is an image of a beetle moving toward Sir Paul McCartney’s coat of arms motto, “Ecce Cor Meum”, (Behold my Heart).
